Harmutty, Assam – 31 May 2025
In the serene corridors of St. Xavier’s School, Harmutty, where faith and learning meet under the gracious gaze of Don Bosco, a quiet yet touching moment of gratitude unfolded. Mr. Nabajyoti Boruah, Manager of HDFC Bank, Banderdewa Branch, along with his colleagues, paid a farewell visit to Fr Benny James SDB, Principal of the institution as he prepares to move on to newer horizons of service in another part of the Salesian Province of Dimapur.
With words few but feelings deep, the bank team offered a token of appreciation, symbolic not merely of institutional partnership, but of genuine camaraderie and respect. The Senior Manager, moved by the occasion, shared in his social media reflection:
“Goodbyes are never easy. But I know you will do great things wherever you go, ‘Father’.”
In response, Fr Benny, ever gracious in spirit and word, penned his thanks in the following lines:
“Thank you very much. It has been a pleasure to know you and to be associated with you all. The experience has been truly enriching. I am especially grateful for the way you made banking so smooth and comfortable. All the teachers and other staff are so happy with the service. Please do continue the good service. May God bless you all.”
This moment, though simple in its outward form, bore witness to the deeper truth that the Salesian mission is not confined to classrooms and chapels alone, but reaches out in everyday encounters — dignifying the ordinary with warmth, friendship, and integrity.
As Fr Benny James SDB continues his journey in the vineyard of the Lord, his presence at St. Xavier’s remains etched in the hearts of many — as a shepherd, an educator, and a Salesian who walks joyfully in the footsteps of Don Bosco.
